I wanted to give a shoutout to Terry for helping me transform and lose over 20 pounds. I struggled with excess weight, which comes with high blood pressure, miscarriage from hypothyroidism, and hormone imbalances - all from not eating well, exercising and caring enough for my health and fitness. I was only 124 pounds in my mid to late 20’s and then after in mid to late 30’s I was above 167 pounds. Which brought in all types of health issues.
I had a few difficult years - having older parents and a new baby to take care of. In addition to that, I decided to pull up all my energy and go to grad school for my MBA to get my career on track and unfortunately had a bad experience which added to losing my confidence to rock bottom. While I was going through all this, I was stress-eating and gaining weight.
Terry who is my neighbor and friend for the past 15 years, went through similar issues and when I saw her going through the journey of being overweight and transitioning into a healthy and beautifully fit person --- her dedication to fitness and macro food, and her entire routine made me take the first step to start working on my own fitness goals.
Terry helped me every step of this wellness journey. I call her my therapist, nutritionist, fitness instructor and life coach! She guided me with patience and perseverance. I had never lifted weights - she helped me accomplish my overall goal to a healthy mind and body. Today I have no high blood pressure, I lost over 20 pounds (154 to 133), I’m able to eat what I like and make sure my family also eats nutritious macro-friendly food. We have misconceptions that macros diet is going to be difficult and bland -- but that is not true.
You can make it what you like and what fits your lifestyle. Portion it right and you can continue to eat whatever you prefer - not just salads. Combine the way you cook with macros so that you enjoy every meal.
Terry guided me through all this step by step. Her experience and guidance helped me create well-balanced meals that I truly enjoyed while losing one pound a week.
I would never have taken this path if I had seen Terry’s transformation. And I would have never achieved my goals in fitness, nutrition and shedding the extra pounds if Terry had not coached me with her technique. What I loved most is that she works one-on-one with you - not one size fits. All is truly individualized to you!
We are doing great Terry. I hope all is well with you! Both Dianne and I are counting macros and drinking ginger shots each day. I’ve resumed daily ashtanga yoga and Dianne is doing some weight training. I even bought a Ninja and made frozen yogurt. LOL. I cannot thank you enough for inspiring these positive changes. Best wishes on your upcoming retreats, I truly hope to return to THOR sometime next year. Best, Vicki

When was the last time you slept seven uninterrupted hours? If you can’t remember, you’re in the right place. Most midlife women arrive running on broken sleep, 3 a.m. hot flashes, and a mind full of someone else’s to-do lists. That’s why we built every room around the science of putting midlife sleep back together. By day three, your body remembers how to sleep. By day five, you’ve slept more deep and REM hours than you have in months. We have both single and double occupancy options. Each room has its own dedicated bathroom.

Our nutritional approach focuses on food that is therapeutic, not just pretty. Our meals account for proper macronutrient ranges, local food sourcing, higher protein portions and balanced carbs and fat. You will feel well nourished, satisfied and experience real whole foods nutrition. Our 3 daily meals are designed to provide energy, satiety, balance hormones and taste great while being mindful or your specific nutritional requirements. We accommodate vegetarian, pescatarian, gluten free & dairy free requests.

The cumulative effects of our well-programmed retreats include intentional movement, nature immersion, self-care rituals, somatic practices, and group integration with minimal external stimulation are known to visibly reduce inflammation, improve metabolism, stress markers & lipid panels and continue to improve weeks after guests return home. None of these are magic bullets. They are the result of intentional lifestyle medicine pillars we teach & practice at all women’s retreats.

Every coach and facilitator is selected and trained around lifestyle medicine – the same six-pillar framework being adopted by clinics across the country to treat perimenopausal sleep, fatigue, and burnout at the root cause. Restorative sleep, stress management, movement, strength, nutrition, nervous system regulation, social connection, and the things you stop putting into your body. You came here to restore. We came here to help you remember how and teach you how to keep it.

We are an independent American woman-owned and women-run boutique retreat center dedicated to individualized women’s mind body protocols specifically designed for physical, mental, hormonal, nervous system & emotional well-being in midlife.
Every moment is designed to help you reconnect with your body, clear your mind, and reignite your inner strength. Through gentle daily movement, nature walks and deep restoration, we’ll reset – together.
With just 10 spots, this retreat is intentionally intimate. That means personal attention, meaningful connection, and space to breathe, move, and evolve in one of the most energetically charged places on Earth. If the mountains have been calling you, this is your sign. Let’s rise and heal – together.

We’ll gather on a private luxury mountaintop estate tucked inside the heart of the Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains. Surrounded by ancient trees, winding trails, and wide-open sky, this serene setting offers the perfect backdrop for rest, renewal, and powerful breakthroughs.
The closest airport is McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) in Knoxville, TN, about 1 Hour and 15 minutes from the retreat property. Detailed driving directions will be shared upon booking. Depending on group size, group shuttles may be offered at additional cost from the airport on designated arrival and departure days.
If you’d like to extend your stay in the Smokies, please send an email to terry [at] thehouseorrose.com and we can help you book your extra day. There is also an option to book an extra night’s stay at checkout.
The same small core team is with you all 5 days, not a rotation of contractors who barely know your name. Terry Tateossian (THOR’s founder, Harvard Medical School Lifestyle Medicine Coach, certified personal trainer and nutrition coach, and the woman behind The Midlife Method) is on-site and coaching guests in person. She’s joined by Laura Golden, a Jivamukti yoga teacher (RYT-800) trained in vinyasa yoga for midlife nervous systems, Kara Krysinski, our retreats coordinator who helps faciliate our meals and schedule and a licensed massage therapist. Some retreats may include guests trained in women’s hormones and metabolism, and a mindfulness facilitator certified in trauma-informed meditation or breathwork faciliators.
We cap every restorative retreat at 12 women, with a working range of 4–12 so the experience stays intimate. That’s intentional. It’s the largest group size where every guest still gets eye contact at meals, real attention in strength sessions, and a coach who knows her sleep history by Thursday. Smaller than a typical “wellness weekend.” Bigger than therapy. Exactly right for the women we serve.
Yes. Here’s a real full day at THOR Mountain.
This is the retreat we wished existed when we were going through it, so almost everything here is designed around midlife physiology.
On the programming side: rooms run cool (65–68°F) so hot flashes don’t run your night.
Nature walks, yoga classes, strength sessions are programmed to your body and level.
We sequence your evening yin and breathwork specifically to drop you into parasympathetic rest before bed.
On the menu side: every meal is high-protein, fiber-forward, and rich in the micronutrients that get depleted in perimenopause and menopause: magnesium, B-complex, omega-3, vitamin D. No alcohol. No mid-afternoon caffeine. No restrictive “diet retreat” energy. If you’re tracking hot flashes, sleep, or mood, our coaches will walk you through what’s working and why. You’ll feel the difference by day three. Most guests do.
We aim for 25-30 grams of complete protein per meal for every guest. This is the threshold the research shows is necessary to trigger meaningful muscle protein synthesis in women over 40. (Your 25-year-old self could get away with less. Your perimenopausal body can’t.) We hit it with intention, not chicken-breast monotony. Eggs and Greek yogurt at breakfast, delicious protein bowls and fresh vegetables at lunch, lean protein and colorful veggies at dinner – mostly Mediterranean-style and chef-built so it actually tastes like food you’d choose. Plant-based and pescatarian guests get the same protein target, just routed differently. If you’re not sure how to hit this number once you’re home, our nutritionist will walk you through it on the last day. (And if you want to keep going, our Macro Miracle Mediterranean Cookbook has 80 recipes that do exactly this.
The retreat doesn’t stop when you drive home. Every guest leaves with a 30-day integration plan built around what you need: your personalized macro targets (calibrated by our nutrition lead before you leave), a 30 day take-home strength program, sleep protocol notes, and a recipe pack of the meals you loved most. You’ll also get a 30-day check-in call with the team to troubleshoot what’s working and what’s slipping, plus access to the THOR community of midlife women doing this alongside you. If you want deeper support, we offer a discounted upgrade to Age With Strength™ 1:1 coaching program for guests within 14 days of leaving the property. The transformation happens at the retreat. The “keeping it going” happens at home.
This retreat is for you if:
– You’re a woman between 40 to 65, in perimenopause, menopause, or post-menopause
– You’re tired of being dismissed by doctors and ready to take your energy, sleep, and strength back
– You want science-backed coaching, not crystals-and-vibes wellness theater
– You’re open to early mornings, real food, real strength, real rest, and being coached
– You want to leave with a plan you can actually use at home
This retreat probably isn’t for you if:
– You’re looking for a party week with cocktails by the pool (we’re alcohol-free for a reason)
– You want a “boot camp” experience with maximal intensity and minimal recovery
– You’re not interested in any structured movement, nutrition, or sleep work
– You’re in active treatment for an eating disorder or acute mental health crisis that needs clinical care (we’ll happily refer you to providers who specialize in that, and welcome you here when the time is right)
– You’re not ready to put your phone down for a few hours a day
If you’re somewhere in between and not sure, book a quick call and we’ll help you decide together. No pressure, no pitch.
You’ll receive a full packing list closer to the retreat. Essentials include breathable activewear, water shoes, hiking shoes or boots, a daypack, a sun hat, layers for chilly desert mornings, a swimsuit, and any personal items to help you feel comfortable and grounded.
Not at all. All fitness levels are welcome. Movement classes and hikes are designed with options and modifications, so you can honor your body’s needs each day. Whether you’re easing back into movement or already active, you’ll feel supported and encouraged.
You’ll stay in a 6,000 sq ft lodge-style private estate with stunning mountain views, cozy fireplace, crisp linens, and spa-like bathrooms. Most rooms are shareable, but deeply restful—you can come solo or with a friend (we’ll pair you if needed). Private rooms are available for an additional fee.
This is a women-only retreat designed to support female connection, vulnerability, and empowerment. At this time, we are not accepting partners or spouses to maintain the sacred space we’ve created for women. However, we do have a retreat to the South of France that is open to partners and husbands. 🙂
Yes. The estate is fully equipped with modern comforts, including central heating and A/C, so you’ll be cozy and comfortable no matter the weather.
